Dough: what to do with it?
Posted by LanguageMaster @ Thu Dec 27, 2007 11:52 am
As you might have seen, you receive a certain amount of points after posting something. Those points are called "Dough" and can be used in a variety of instances.

First of all, Dough can be used on the forum to purchase some in-forum features such as: username changes, your own group, personalized rank (aka usertitle), and much more.

In addition, Dough can be used to null a certain amount of user warnings. However, this cannot undo bans or suspensions. This cannot increase Karma level after it reaches 0, either.

Also, Dough can be used to buy temporary moderating rights. You can use it to buy local moderating rights over a certain forum, or you can use it to buy global, or super, moderating rights, which, of course, costs more. These moderating rights will be stripped after a certain amount of time, which can be decided upon by your purchase (up to one month).

For more information on what you can get with your Dough, see the Redemption section of this forum.

On top of earning Dough, you can also lose Dough as well. Receiving a warning will decrease your Dough level in addition to a lowered Karma level. Dough can reach negative levels, too, so be careful!

The amount of Dough you earn from posting is as follows:

  • For a new topic, you earn 10 Dough.
  • For each reply to your own topic, including your own posts, you receive 1 Dough.
  • For each reply to a topic other than your own, you receive 5 Dough.
  • You do NOT receive Dough per character, only for how many replies/topics you post.
  • You do NOT receive Dough for quoted text, that is not your own words, and it shouldn't be counted as such.
  • You do NOT receive Dough for private messages.
  • You do NOT receive Dough for editing your posts.
  • You CANNOT earn Dough after 25 posts a day. After 25 posts, your Dough count does not increase until the next day, GMT-5 time.

Moderators cannot edit Dough count. Solely the Administrator can change those numbers.

I hope you can keep this info in mind as you are on these forums!

I'm leaving this thread open so that if you have any questions regarding Dough, you can ask them here.

  The Rules*
Posted by LanguageMaster @ Thu Dec 13, 2007 5:27 pm
I know it's a bummer, but there HAS to be rules here so that anything illegal can't happen, or that I don't get in trouble..

In order to keep the forums running well and to prevent problems, please follow these simple rules for the forums here. If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact me.

    General Rules:
  • While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. Our decision is final in these matters.
  • Please refrain from posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) non-sense posts, or the such.
  • Multiple or repeated posting in order to increase your post count is not allowed.
  • Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum email and Private message system to spam other members.
  • Please wait a reasonable amount of time before bumping posts. For style changes and general 'how-to' questions this should be 24 hours. For specific troubleshooting issues, use 12 hours as a guideline.
  • We also do not allow posts that are sexual in nature or violate this community's rules.
  • Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations ARE ILLEGAL, and therefore will not be tolerated on this forum.
  • Each member is allowed one login account. Registering with multiple accounts is not allowed.
  • While we are quite happy to have constructive comparative conversations about competitor's products, we will not tolerate blatant adverts or the sort of 'ooh look, yet another bulletin board' threads. Also, we would appreciate it if you refrain from blatant bashing of other boards.
  • We reserve the right to remove offensive posts without notice.
  • Also while these rules cover most common situations, they cannot anticipate everything. Consequently we reserve the right to take any actions we deem appropriate to ensure these forums are not disrupted or abused in any way.
  • You cannot post any affiliate or referral links, or post anything asking for a referral. Such posts will be subject to removal.
  • You cannot post advertisements or notices for contests that are organization-based.
  • We also reserve the right to ban anyone who wilfully violates the forum rules, as access to our forums are a privilege and not a right.
  • Any threads/posts violating any of the aforementioned rules will be deleted.
  • The default language of this board is English. Please refrain from writing in another language outside of the Foreign Language board.
  • As a general rule, DO NOT POST PERSONAL INFORMATION (i.e. addresses, phone numbers, e-mails, names, etc.) here! If this information must be circulated, use PMs or another means of communication OUTSIDE of this forum.

    Advertising Services and Solicitation

  • We do not allow people to post threads or to send private messages or emails to users here that advertise or solicit any products, services, funds or donations. Explicit advertising and solicitating in signatures is also prohibited.
  • Please only advertise for services, products, or any site in the respective Advertisement section of this site.

    Links in Sigs

Links in signatures must follow these guidelines:

  • Linking to a commercial product/service is fine.
  • Promotional text for a commercial product or service is ok, provided there are no price(s) of product(s) or service(s) listed.
  • A link and promotional text for a site that is not commercial and does not contain product(s) and/or service(s) is allowed, provided the site is not sexual or does not violate this community's standards. The FNU moderating team shall be the sole arbitrator of what does and what does not violate community standards. (Examples include conversations about drugs and/or sex.)
  • Duplicate links to the same URL in a signature are not allowed.

    Avatars

  • Animated avatars are not allowed. No exceptions.
  • Avatars that may be confused with official staff avatars are not allowed.

    Signature Size Limits

  • All signatures should not exceed the following size limits, and you can't have both text and images.
  • For text signatures: 4 lines normal size, 8 lines small size and up to 90 characters per line. Font sizes above 2 are not allowed. (Blank lines count as lines)
  • Do not use images with large text to bypass the previous item.
  • For images in signatures: 1 image up to 300 pixels wide, 125 pixels tall and 20k in size.
  • Animated images in a signature are not allowed.

We also have some rules that apply for certain forums:

    General Chat Forum Rules:

  • The General Chat forum is where we can gather to chat about almost anything, technical or non-technical in nature. If you have a question that doesn't fit into any other forum, or just want to chat, this is the place.

    Contest Entry Rules:

  • If you are interested in participating in any contest, PM the moderator who is in charge of that contest.
  • ONLY ORIGINAL WORK IS ALLOWED! If any plagiarism, copyright infringement, or any other instance of not submitting your own work is brought to light, your entry will be ignored. No exceptions. Of course, images found online are allowed to be used as long as credit is given to wherever/whomever you found the images from.

    Repemption Center Rules:

  • Here you can make requests for purchasing items with your Dough.
  • ONE THREAD PER USER. No exceptions. If you decide to request for more, use the same thread, only under a different post title.
  • Requests have a specific format to them. See the Redemption Center for more info.

    Forum Ideas Forum Rules:

  • Here ideas on additions/revisions to the forum will be made here. Any suggestions will be discussed by the moderating team and a response to these ideas will be posted as soon as possible.
  • Please limit requests to one request per week, as it takes some time to read and discuss these possible additions to the forum.

    Foreign Language Board Rules:

  • This board is here to further interests in other cultures and languages.
  • It is encouraged to post in the language of the forum in which you post, even though you may not be fluent in that language. However, it is understandable to post in English so as to not be misunderstood.
  • There will be members who speak the language or are proficient in the language moderating these forums. If you are interested in doing this, PM me. I, myself, am not fluent in all of these languages, so, in some cases, the moderators of these boards will have as much say-so as I do.
  • PLEASE DO NOT MAKE A FUSS ABOUT SOMEONE'S ABILITY TO SPEAK THE LANGUAGE. Part of learning the language is to be able to convey one's thoughts to another. They do not need the persecution of another hindering their path towards knowledge.

    Your Corner Board Rules:

  • This is the place to post your OWN music, poetry, etc. Anything that is not of your own belonging WILL BE DELETED.
  • ONE topic per forum, except in the writing section. More than one thread is allowed in the writing section, as long as one should belong to any poetry and/or short stories, while any other belongs to its own longer story. Another other multiple threads in these sections will be deleted.
  • Before submitting your work, create a title for the thread which includes your username in some sort of way.
  • For RPGs, in order to participate, you must have at least 15 posts. No exceptions.
  • For the Advertisment section, you must have a total of 30 posts in order to adverstise your site. Please follow the previously stated rules on advertising.
  • For submissions that contain themes that may offend other readers, a disclaimer warning the reader should be provided at the begininning of the original, opening post.
  • For stories, a relative content rating should be included in the thread title (G, PG, PG-13, R, or NC-17).

    HELP!! Board Rules:

  • Here one can post if they need help on something.
  • In order to speed up the help process, use a more creative title for the thread other than the usual "Help needed" title. Instead use something like "Username change."
  • Also, a little courtesy and respect goes a long way. It takes time to process these requests. Remember to use your please and thank you's.

    The Media Board Rules:

  • Here anything posted is about music, television, etc.
  • COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT, ETC. IS ILLEGAL AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IF LINKS, ETC., TO ILLEGAL MATERIAL ARE FOUND IN THESE FORUMS.

    Warnings / Praises:

  • Any users who disobey these rules face either a warning (in the form of a reduced Karma level), suspension from the forum (explained later by a moderator or the administrator), or immediate banishment from the forum.
  • IT IS UP TO THE MODERATOR THAT BANNED YOU WHETHER OR NOT YOU SHOULD BE NOTIFIED OF THE BANISHMENT!!!
  • If a user is seen to be of use to the moderating team, or does anything exceptionally good, then a moderator may award that user by praising him/her (in the form of an increased Karma level). These praises will be used in determining any new members of the moderating staff.
  • PLEASE!!! If you see someone breaking the rules, INFORM A MODERATOR and the problem will be dealt with then. IT IS NOT UP TO THE MEMBERS OF A FORUM TO CRITICIZE A MEMBER FOR BREAKING THESE RULES! Leave it up to those whose job it is to do so.

If you have any questions, PM me or a moderator.

Thanks!

*Rules here may mimic those of other forums.
